Our Daughters Backyard Wedding
Do you want to see the gorgeous florals we used for our daughters backyard wedding? Let’s take a look together!
not the whole story
Let me start off by saying that this is in no way the whole story of the wedding flowers. Our daughter made many of the floral arrangements for the centerpieces and such ahead of time using gorgeous shaved wood blooms.
I’ll try to share those in a future post but it depends on the copyright of the wedding images. I wouldn’t want to use someone else’s images without permission!
photography backstory
If you are wondering why I didn’t take my own photos of the day, let me tell you and I will start with a backstory.
Years ago, I was a wedding photographer. I also photographed community events, families, and high school seniors. It was a wonderful time in my life capturing such important events in the lives of people.
One of the things I learned through that time in my life, was that when you are photographing events, you really don’t get to enjoy the actual event.
To capture each moment of an event, you have to pay close attention to what is going on so you don’t miss an important image. And usually, that means you don’t experience the emotions, the special moments, and such because you are focusing on capturing it for the client.
The photographer in me would have wanted to make each image perfect and I would have missed the whole day!
I didn’t want to miss any of the details of our daughter’s wedding because I was thinking about framing the shot, or checking my camera settings, or being at just the right spot at the right time to capture the moment.
be present in the moment
I wanted to be there. Really be there. I wanted to be present.
And I wanted to be there for every moment.
Being with my people when my people are with me is super important in my book! So I put my phone down and didn’t even bring my dSLR out of my office!
Golly, I didn’t even have my cell phone camera with me! It was in the house all day 🙂 All the people that might have called me, were right there with me. In person. In close proximity. Side by side with me.
good morning stories
So, I grabbed a few photos from my Good Morning Stories on Instagram that I had taken a couple of weeks leading up to the wedding day.
Maybe you don’t know this, but I share a Good Morning story each morning (sometimes on the weekends) on Instagram. I literally head out each morning, sometimes still in my jammies, and look for something of beauty in my yard. Even in the winter!
It’s been a great way to begin my day – looking intently for something beautiful in His creation. It helps to center me and remind me to see the little things in life.
It’s the old-fashioned ‘stop and smell the roses’ adage in action!
Anyway, I have lots of floral images on my phone and I thought would give you a close-up of the florals that were in our yard for the wedding.
so many shared perennials
So many of these plants have been added over the years. In fact, our entire yard was a cornfield before we purchased the land and built our home!
Everything you see here has been planted by my hubby and me. It’s been a labor of gardening love 🙂
Unfortunately, I do not know the specific varieties of some of the plants like the hostas. We probably have about ten varieties scattered around the yard.
They have been divided so many times and that is why I have so many! Also, I have exchanged with friends. That’s such a fun way to add perennials to the yard!
blooms on a trunk!
Our Eastern Redbud had finished blooming by the day of the wedding, but I couldn’t resist sharing these images with you!
It acually puts out buds on the trunk of the tree!! Isn’t that amazing??
The branches are long and reach out. They were filled with tiny little blooms all over the tree.
The Knockout Roses were in full bloom on the day of the wedding. There are about ten of them in our rose garden between the Redbud and the Kousa Dogwood trees.
