Our Home – House Tour

Hello everyone and happy Monday to you!  I am super excited to begin a new series on the blog today!  We will be looking at several projects over the next few months that will inspire you to bring some farmhouse style to your home!

Certainly Fixer Upper on HGTV with Chip and Joanna Gaines have made the farmhouse home decor popular and I for one am so glad for it!  The farmhouse look has been around for sometime although it wasn’t called farmhouse necessarily. In some ways, the farmhouse look stemmed from the ‘country’ look.  Now stick with me here – you might be in shock that I just said that but hear me out!  The country decor from the late eighties and early nineties was really about creating a hominess feeling in your home.  The colors were different certainly but the down home feeling was the same.  Styles come and go and blending in the old with the new can be a challenge but not impossible.

After 30+ years of having our home, we have undergone many changes.  We were never able to make all of the changes at once because it would have broke the bank!  With patience, time and some creativity we have been able to stay current with our decor through the years.  Mostly because of a can of paint!  Paint can transform a room so quickly, whether it is on the walls or on the furniture. But also because my husband and I have purchased timeless, classic kinds of pieces over the years.

Before I get off on a tangent, let me just start this series with some ‘before’ photos.  Now realize we have made some big changes over the  last few years to our home.  A big renovation about 5 years ago really opened up our living areas.  Since then we have made some subtle changes and we continue to make changes.  Decorating your home is hobby of sorts.  It’s not that you ever really finish, it is always a work in progress 🙂

Here is a view from our dining room into our kitchen.  I plan on talking about the transformation of this space more in future posts along with more before and after photos.  This is just the intro 🙂

This is a look from our kitchen into our living area.  We don’t have a formal living room.  Never really wanted anything ‘formal’ just comfy 🙂

Here is the dining area.  We actually have two places to eat our meals now – one at the kitchen island and this area for when we have a big group.  The table has one more 24″ leaf to accommodate more people 🙂  I have big plans for this dining table and chairs!  It will probably be our first project together 🙂

One last look – this time from the living area into the kitchen.  Our living space is one big room and we really love it!  I will share the transformation of this space in a future post.  For now, I just wanted to show you around a bit.

I can’t wait to begin working on some projects for our home to share with you!  The plan is at least one project per month.  We do have to go to work ya know 😉 I thought it might be nice to have some before shots so we can see together how to make some small (and maybe some big) changes to bring the farmhouse feel to our homes! If you have a project you would like to see on the blog, let me know and maybe we can tackle it together 🙂

Thanks for stopping by!  Be sure to comment below!  I would love to hear from you!

I love these pictures of your home, Cindy! They look like they belong in a Good Housekeeping magazine, especially the kitchen, it belongs on the cover page! My husband and I have spent many great visits here with lots of love, hugs, good food and great family time!
