Guide to Reupholster Dining Chairs

Learn how to DIY reupholster a dining chair with our step-by-step guide. Transform your furniture with our easy reupholstering tips!

Purchase outdated dining chairs at yard sales or used furniture stores.

Pull out the old staples and tacks using needle nose pliers and an upholstery tack remover.

Layer batting, new foam, and decorative fabric on the top side of the wooden chair seat base. Use a pneumatic staple gun to secure the layers to the back of the base.

Carefully fold the fabric layers and staple the corners for a neat appearance. This will also help to secure the layers to the chair base.

Stitch up 'sit upons' for each seat. They are removable flat covers that can be tossed in the washer for easy clean up!

Or, spray on the fabric protector and allow it to dry. This makes easy cleanup of spills too!

If you have mismatched chairs, paint and reupholster the same. No one will know the difference!
