How to Whitewash Old Oak Furniture

Discover this easy way to whitewash furniture and create a beautiful before and after furniture makeover.

Purchase an antique piece of furniture at a thrift store, ReStore or local auction

Thoroughly clean the old furniture with hot soapy water, rinse well and allow to dry in the sunshine.

Sand the old wood to completely remove the original finish and expose the raw wood. Start with 120 grit and work back to 220 grit sandpaper for a smooth finish.

Use clamps and wood glue to make any needed repairs. More details in the full blog post! Click below!

Use a thin mixutre of milk paint in a pale blue color to offset the orange tone of the old oak wood furniture.

Apply the diluted milk paint using a paint brush. Allow the paint to soak in for a couple of minutes.

Wipe away the excess paint until you have reached the desired look.

Seal the whitewashed oak wood with a couple of coats of hemp oil for a vintage finish. When it is completely dry, the whitewash look will return!

Replace the hardware to create the look you like!

Enjoy your whitewashed piece of furniture for years to come!
