Shop for an antique oak round table with a pedestal base. Ask your family and friends if they have one. Also, look at Marketplace!

Disassemble the dining table. Measure, mark and cut the pedestal base to the desired coffee table height. 18" is a standard finished height for coffee tables.

Use Ready Strip to safely remove the old varnish or paint finish.

Clean the piece after removing the varnish.  Apply several coats of gel bleach to the wood and allow it to dry between coats. Rinse thoroughly after the last coat.

Apply white wax. Or use a white-wash technique with milk paint then seal with a matte clear coat. This will give the same look as a waxed finish.

Reassemble the table top to the shortened pedestal base.
