Upcycled Chairs | Sofa Table

You won’t believe how we have upcycled chairs found at a local auction into a one of a kind sofa table! The transformation is amazing!!

Chairs Abound!

Haven’t we have all seen chairs just like this in countless restaurants across our great land? Many of the wooden chairs like this are being replaced with the metal version of the same style. So the wooden versions are plentliful if you check out auctions and restaurant closing sell-out auctions.

We found two at a recent auction and grabbed them up! The seats came off easily with the four screws that attach the seat section to the leg section.

The legs have an attractive curved support system and we used that for another project — of course! I will post about that project soon! We love to reinvent around here!

I loved the ladder back style of the chairs and knew we could do something creative with them. My first thought was to use them as table legs but I didn’t have a top for said table! Agh! The problems of repurposing!

Then along came this lovely! A 1940’s vanity that we wanted to reinvent into two separate nightstands. But I wasn’t about to let that top go to waste!

Conversations With My Biz Partner

Let me just give you a little insight to how my hubby and I tag team so many of our projects. The conversation goes something like this:

Me: Honey, I have these two chair backs and a cool vanity top.

Hubby: Ooookaaaaay…….so what??

Me: I was thinking that maybe you could, you know, kinda….. put ’em all together….somehow….. ya’ know what I mean????

Hubby: Wow…..really???? You want me to do what???

Me: And oh yeah, add a shelf in there somewhere too! Pleeeese?? {smile, smile, wink, wink}

Hubby: I’ll see what I can do.

He never ceases to amaze me! And our customers!

Better Than What I Imagined!

Honestly, every time we plan a project this way it seems to come out even better than I imagined!! Somehow our minds are in sync! That can happen after 35 years of conversations 😉

Unique Details

I love the curvy details of the 1940’s vanity top!! He also built an apron to bring the chair backs and top all together securely.

The shelving is made from oak industrial pallet wood that my hubby salvages himself. The slats of the wood are attached with dowel rods. I will try to share that method soon. We use dowel rods to make all sorts of repairs on many other projects.

So Many Uses

The height of this table would be perfect behind a sofa! It would also be great as a table between two side chairs in a living area.

Or maybe even a buffet in the dining area!

Hey, what about a catch-all table in the entry way of a home! So many uses!

Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint was used to paint the base. I used a custom mix 1:1 of Schloss and Ironstone. I love custom mixing paints to produce a curated look in a home. Not all matchy-match 🙂

The top was darkened with General Finishes Van Dyke Brown Glaze then top coated with three coats of General Finishes High Performance in Flat. My favorite top coat!

You will not find another table like this anywhere! The components came together so beautifully! This pair of upcycled chairs makes the perfect table.

This piece will be loved and used by someone special, I just know it!
